Every year, countless litters are born outdoors, and well-meaning people often swoop in to rescue kittens—even when it might be best to wait and observe. So, how can you tell if those tiny furballs really need your help?

Know the Signs

• Age & Appearance: Are their eyes open? Can they walk steadily? Younger kittens have different needs than older kittens.
• Location: Are they in immediate danger (e.g., near a busy road or predators)?
• Mother’s Presence: Sometimes Mom is just out looking for food. If the kittens seem healthy and safe, waiting a bit before interfering can be the best move.
